Recent cases we have been involved with and how these have positively affected peoples' lives.
NCTL referral is dismissed at the first stage
We recently acted for a Teacher who was being pursued by the National College of Teaching and Leadership (“the NCTL”) after allegations were made against her concerning professional misconduct. Our client was accused of acting in a dishonest manner by proving incorrect information on her CV.
Match successfully assists student who was refused legal representations
Our client was informed of an investigation against him alleging serious misconduct of a sexual nature, upon which he was invited to a Disciplinary Hearing at the University and faced permanent exclusion if he were to been found guilty of the offence. The complexity of this case was heightened further due to his diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome and the fact that despite knowledge of this, the University refused to allow him to be legally represented during the proceedings.
Match secures independent school in EHC Plan
We acted for the parent of a 14 year old girl who had an Education, Health and Care Plan. Her daughter had Cerebral Palsy, learning difficulties, and a visual impairment, resulting from a brain injury suffered as a baby. She had attended an independent special school for over 10 years but was due to leave the school as it only took children up to the age of 14. Our client requested that she move to a different independent special school but her Local Authority refused this, and named instead a maintained special school which our client did not consider would be suitable.
Success in challenge to Masters degree classification
We were recently instructed by a client in relation to a challenge to the classification of his Masters degree. He had been awarded a Merit for the degree but had been assessed as missing out on a Distinction by a very small margin. We assisted in the preparation of an appeal against the decision and identified that it appeared that the University had not properly applied its regulations when determining what classification to award.
Match successfully helps student with ADHD diagnosis fight exclusion decision
We represented our client whose daughter was excluded from an independent school, following an incident concerning substance abuse. Our client’s daughter was otherwise a good student, achieving well, though she had recently been diagnosed with ADHD. The incident leading to the exclusion took place after the diagnosis.
Match letter helps A level student to get additional time in exams
Our clients approached us when the College where their 17 year old son was preparing to sit his ‘A’ levels, refused to progress an Application for Access Arrangements for 50% additional time for his summer examination series. This was a very difficult time for the young man, in any event, as he suffers from anxiety and was due to embark on his mock examinations without the extra time he required.
Match assists retired supply teacher with referral to NCTL
Our client had retired from teaching but had returned to the classroom on a Supply basis. Some pupils were unhappy with certain teaching approaches and phrases used in the classroom. The School commenced internal disciplinary proceedings but our client resigned because he had decided not to continue in teaching for health reasons.
International student who was withdrawn allowed to re-sit examinations
We recently represented an international student who had failed several examinations in the penultimate year of his course. Our client was given the opportunity to re-sit the examinations though failed these on the second attempt and was withdrawn from his course and after which, came to seek advice from us.
Match successfully helps mature student with appeal hearing
We recently acted for a mature student who had been withdrawn from her degree studying social work. Our client had failed her dissertation due to an unmerited delay of eighteen months on behalf of the Higher Education Institution, causing significant detriment to our client and her progression.
Match helps reverse permanent exclusion decision for GCSE student
We recently acted for our client, whose son was permanently excluded from a prestigious independent school. Our client’s son was in his last year at school, preparing to sit his final GCSE examinations.
Teacher with allegations by NCTL allowed to continue with teaching career
